Enduring Reality
“The longer and more carefully we look at a funny story, the sadder it becomes.”
Nikolai Gogol
Humour contains happiness and sadness at the same time. Just like life. If this world seems increasingly full of disappointments and chaos, humour is vital, giving us the capacity to face our cares. So Katie’s work has a sense of humour not to deflect from reality but to face it. She started this series in the sweltering heat of Hong Kong summer, 2016. Sweet treats become messy and remembered pleasures share space with an increasing sense of the world becoming a less safe place to be.

It is a project run by The Hidden Space. I was responsible for Part 1, the first of three linked exhibitions exploring the interface between interior and exterior experience.
